.au Validation

.au domains have strict requirements around who can register what domains. In short, the domain you're registering must be related to yourself, an Australian entity, or registered trademark. We are required by the .au Domain Administration to ensure that all the information we provide is valid - including why you can register a domain.

We will sometimes need to validate the details you have provided us. This can be done without your input on our end (such as with an Australia Company Number), but we may require further information - such as an ID - from you.

For more information about the .au restrictions, please see the official .au Domain Administration website.

Validation Steps

In the case that your domain details need to be validated by our team, your domain will be in a pending state. During this period, our team will be validating the provided details and ensuring that there's be no problems. In the case of an issue, we will be in touch to confirm your details and ensure your domain registration will go through smoothly.

If your domain is in this state after registering it, please allow for at least 24 hours before contacting us.

TLD Restrictions

Some TLDs are restricted to certain eligibility types. For example, .com.au and .net.au domains are limited to Australian companies and trademarks. Meanwhile, .au domains can be registered by anyone.

In these cases, you will be unable to select anything but the allowed eligibility types.

ID Requirements

If you are required to provide your ID, we will need a picture of one of the following:

  1. Australian Driver's License
  2. Passport
  3. Medicare Card

The image should clearly show your ID number and details. It must be in a JPG, PNG, or PDF format, and the image cannot be over 20MB.

We will hold your ID for a short period for validation purposes. Once we have verified your information, we will be able to proceed with the domain registration.

If you have any questions about our data policy or anything else, please feel free to get in touch.
