Renaming a Container

Renaming a container allows you to easily change the name or domain name of a container without having to create a new container or lose any settings.

The ability to rename a container is unavailable for Integrated Containers.

When changing the hostname, we will usually add an alias with the www. prefix for you. For example, if you change the name to example.co.nz, we will also add www.example.co.nz as an additional host.

Note that if SSL is enabled - which it should be - we will only add this alias for you if it is currently active. This ensures the SSL Certificate can be renewed successfully in the future. You can always add extra aliases later through the Control Panel.

The previous primary host will become one of the container's aliases after a successful rename.

To rename a container, follow the simple steps below:

  1. When logged in to the SiteHost Control Panel, click the Containers module from the menu on the left.
  2. Click the Container Label from the list to open the Container management page.
  3. Under the Container Label section, click on the pencil icon on the right of the domain name to edit the container's label.
  4. Fill in the new Website Address or Container Label field with as required.
  5. Click the Save Changes button to proceed.

The container will be restarted (and if SSL is enabled, a new certificate will be reissued) for the change to take effect.
