.nz Domain Special Requirements

The new .nz domains became available on the 30th September 2014 and while they largely work exactly the same way as any other domain there’s a few things to be aware of which are explained below:

Registration

If the domain you want has the status ‘Available’ you can register it as you would any other domain through our Control Panel.

Preferential Registration (PRR) or Resolved

If the domain you want has the status of ‘PRR’ or ‘Resolved’ it means there is a parent domain which has the rights to the new .nz version. If you own the parent domain, then you can get the new domain.

To do this you will need to transfer the new .nz domain to your account using the Auth Code of the parent domain. Once you have the Auth Code simply login to the Control Panel, click Domains » Transfer and enter the new domain, plus the Auth Code of the parent domain. Complete the steps you see on screen and the domain will be in your account at the end of the process.

Conflicted

If the domain you want has the status of ‘Conflicted’ this means there are multiple domains which could potentially have rights to the new .nz version. This needs to be resolved and you need to go to the anyname.nz website to start this process.

Not Available

If the domain you want has the status of ‘Not Available’ this means either somebody else has already registered it, or the DNC has decided to not make the domain available to register for various reasons.
