Account Security

Please follow our recommendations as outlined below...

Passwords

We recommend researching password best practices to keep your information safe and secure, but here are some basic tips that we suggest you follow:

  • Always use a unique password that you don't use anywhere else.
  • Use a password manager such as 1Password, LastPass or KeePass.
  • Ensure your passwords are a minimum of 8 characters with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols.
  • Enable Two Factor Authentication whenever possible.
  • Never give your passwords to anyone else.

Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

Our Control Panel has support for two factor authentication and we strongly recommend you enable it on your account with us (and anywhere else that offers it) to add an extra layer of security in case your email and password are compromised. You can learn how to set it up in this article.

If you have multiple users with logins for your account, it is also possible to enforce a policy for all users to have active 2FA.

Account Access

Don't share your account login details with others.

If you need to give others access to your account, you may want to create an account contact or a sub-account depending on what works best for you.

Account Locked

After multiple failed attempts we will lock your account for 60 minutes to prevent someone from trying to brute force access to your account. If you need to unlock your account immediately, please send an email to accounts@sitehost.co.nz or give us a call on +64 9 974 2182.
